World’s largest wind tunnel opening in Raeford

img_6239.gif
I may not be sky diving as much for about the next month or so. Right now I’m taking a few weeks off and looking for a new AAD for my sky diving rig.

A new wind tunnel is being built in Raeford, NC by SkyVenture and is scheduled to open in August. It will be used by the military, but is also open to the public and experienced skydivers. It is also the world’s largest wind tunnel and will only be a three hour drive from my location. You know your jealous. We are planning on taking a group from the drop zone up to the wind tunnel. That is going to be an absolute blast.

The image on the left is a picture of two of the four turbines. The tunnel itself will 16 feet, 4 inches and provide 2,164 total horsepower for wind speeds in excess of 165 miles per hour. For most, the speed will be likely set to 120mph since those are normal free fall speeds.
