Last year I started to feel rough for some reason and I couldn’t figure out why. I thought it was stress caused by my girlfriend at the time. It was hard to explain, but I remember feeling a loss of energy and maybe breath. At some point my heart started beating rapidly all the time which got worse.
Thought I would look up the symptoms and see which ones I have after going through this for a year now.
Symptoms: Nervous, moody (you may or may not notice that I’ve embraced being a real jerk for once in my life in the last year - I’ll blame that on my condition), very weak, very tired and randomly can’t so much as hold my eyes open, hand tremors, fast and irregular heartbeat (was 120-126 bpm when I was diagnosed), sweat often, hair is falling out (or just not growing), intolerance to heat, have lost 30lbs and can’t sleep (mainly due to my heart pounding away every night) among plenty of others.
I was prescribed several medications, but haven’t taken them for more than two months. I know, what am I thinking. I hate taking drugs, in any form. Just not my thing. Tomorrow I’m calling my doctor and making an appointment, this is getting too hard to deal with anymore.
Hyperthyroidism is a condition in which an overactive thyroid gland is producing an excessive amount of thyroid hormones that circulate in the blood. (”Hyper” means “over” in Greek). Thyrotoxicosis is a toxic condition that is caused by an excess of thyroid hormones from any cause. Thyrotoxicosis can be caused by an excessive intake of thyroid hormone or by overproduction of thyroid hormones by the thyroid gland.
